    Description

MERCEDES BENZ  HI PERFORMANCE RED COIL
WITH 1.8 OHMS BALLAST RESISTOR INCLUDED
A PERFECT OEM IMPROVEMENT FOR MERCEDES BENZ IGNITION
The Mercedes Benz basically utilize two types of ignition coil
during production from 1955 to 1981 , up to mid 1969 the factory installed coil was the part#
0221119021 so called the "black coil " after mid 1969 they introduce the Transistorized Ignition
which utilize a module to enhance the system , the coil for those models was part# 0221122001
    also called "the blue coil"
All those coils are still available , however the Mercedes Benz EPC and Bosch Classic catalog
    show a new number which
superseded those above , the new  number is 000 158 49 03 or
    Bosch 0221119030 which is a
hi performance coil rated at 26500 Volts about 45% higher than the
    original ones, everyone that
owns a vintage Mercedes Benz  knows how important  an significant
    this improvement
can be on the overall performance.
    "
This coil requires a 1.8 Ohms  ballast resistor INCLUDED, identified by a red bracket ,replacement for BOSCH
    part# 0227901014 .
Technical Note: On cars equipped with a non -transistorized ignition or  a conventional ignition
the installation of the Red Coil improves considerably the ignition spark however
the use of the 1.8ohms ballast resistor is a must since the points are subject to a
arcing effect , the current flow between them is high , which can cause pitting
or damage on the surfaces, a condenser as part of those  ignition system also helps
to reduce arcing , the resistor also decrease the voltage input on the primary
windings of the coil preventing overheat and possible damage to it.
On models equipped with transistor module the arcing is drastically reduces since
less than a ampere flows through the points , however the resistor should be installed to
protect the red coil and improve its  longevity , the blue coil originally installed on those
    models
has a distinct construction, the thickness and ratio of the coil windings are designed for
a discharge of the transistor module , the installation of the red coil also improves the spark due
to a much higher voltage rating , however it is possible that the life time durability of the red coil
    might be slightly reduced.
