Description
Renowned and respected architect Michael Graves (1934-2015) had quite a busy and productive collaboration with The Walt Disney Company in the 1990’s. Graves designed the amazing Disney corporate headquarters building in Burbank, California known asTeam Disney
, which features the whimsical touch of the 7 dwarfs holding up the building. During this period, Graves also designed the Swan and Dolphin hotels at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Michael Graves loved designing products as well as buildings and during the 1980's and 1990's he designed many very successsful products including his incredible Alessi tea kettle. In 1993 The Disney Store commissioned Mr. Graves to design a tea kettle and accessories featuring the iconic image of Mickey Mouse. Known as
The Mickey Mouse Gourmet Collection,
the items were made from the finest 18/10 stainless-steel materials by the Moller Company under Graves and Disney direction. This collection was sold only at The Disney Store and only for a very short time.
To launch
The Mickey Mouse Gourmet Collection
in 1993, The Disney Store hosted a onetime event at The Disney Store in Paramus New Jersey, (not far from Mr. Graves office). At the event which only lasted a few hours, Michael Graves signed on site (engraved actual) each piece of his Disney collection that was purchased at the event.
For sale here is a complete set purchased and engraved by Michael Graves that day. The set includes 4 mug/coaster sets (each coaster is engraved
Graves
), a sugar/creamer set (engraved
Graves
on the sugar), a tea kettle (engraved
Graves
) and the hard to find serving tray (this piece is engraved
Michael Graves ’93
)
Also included is a red flyer from the event hand signed in black marker by Michael Graves and a Disney Store brochure from September 1993 entitled
Onstage
featuring an article about the collection.
The items have never been used or out of the box expect for photography and have the original hang tags. All are in the original distinctive yellow boxes featuring a Mickey Mouse head icon and Michael Graves photo. The boxes do have some shelf wear and some minor damage.
These items are pretty rare unused and in original packaging. As a complete collection unused and in original packaging even more rare and signed/engraved at the one time event, unused and in original packaging-well, you get the picture.
